Doloc Town January Dev Log: Gene System, Building Relocation, and Long Night Festival
The first Doloc Town dev log of 2026 is here, and it's packed with news about the next major patch. The team is back from the holidays and ready to introduce a huge batch of content. The update will be launching very soon, and the dev log gives us a sneak peek at three major additions: the Gene System, temporary building placement, and a brand-new holiday event.
Gene System
The centerpiece of the update is the Gene System, which was previously teased on the roadmap. It adds an entirely new branch to the tech tree and is designed to keep players engaged from early to late game. With it, you'll be able to:
- Research seeds and uncover DNA secrets
- Discover, duplicate, and synthesize genes
- Breed unique genetic seeds to survive harsh apocalyptic weather
- Find unexpected discoveries, like glowing mushrooms!
The footage shown is work in progress, and the developers are eager to hear player feedback on this experimental farming feature.
Building Relocation - Temporary Placement
Late game farms often have no empty space to reorganize buildings, but that's about to change. The Construction Controller is getting a huge quality-of-life upgrade. After the patch, you can right-click buildings in the Construction Controller interface to store them in a temporary slot on the right. This lets you easily rearrange your farm exactly how you want, without hassle.
Brand New Event - Long Night Festival
Doloc Town is celebrating its unique New Year with the Long Night Festival. This 7-day event includes cleaning and decorating the town, honoring ancestors, and welcoming the new year on Long Light Festival Eve. Players can participate in rituals and activities, and earn a complete set of traditional mortise and tenon style furniture.
